On 40th Anniversary Of Roe - Scott Walker & His Penis Declare State "Protect Life Day"

On Friday, while all the news you don't want people to know about is frequently dumped, Wisconsin Right to Life put out a press release announcing a Governor's proclamation decreeing January 22nd as Wisconsin Protect Life Day.

Hmmm. If that day is familiar to you it may because it is also the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision. You don't suppose Scott Walker was trying to say something do you?

Thank heaven for the wonderful Heather DuBois Bourenane over at Monologue's of Dissent who made the catch and wrote about it yesterday. It's a must read.

Curiously, Scott Walker's proclamation did not appear on his "proclamation webpage" making all wonder if it was real - until the Governor's office confirmed he did sign it and the omission was an error. (Or maybe they didn't enjoy the backlash they got when Walker reversed the pay equity act and tried to slip it by in a private signing in his office - it didn't work - everyone noticed.)

The Siren will add only to Bourenane's excellent summary by saying this:

Women will decide to end unintended pregnancies whether abortion is legal or not. This is a fact.

According to a study by the Guttmacher Institute, at the very least 70,000 women die each year across the globe due to unsafe and/or illegal abortions. Countries with little safe abortion access or who have made abortion illegal represent the most fatalities.

Scott Walker and his ilk have worked hard to make safe access to abortions harder and harder for women and have even gone so far as to place the life of the mother at risk in pursuing their goals. As they continue to succeed, women will die or be mutilated. Walker and his ilk will congratulate themselves for being righteously "pro-life."

Bourenane asks and the Siren agrees: Call Scott Walker's office to object to his sneaky move on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
