a brief commentary ready for publication on Friday after the newest John Doe records were released.
On Saturday, Politifact deemed his assertions in his defense "false."
Walker supporters and the teabilly shills they used to reelect Walker are basically silent, the color draining away from their angry red faces as those coveted swing voters begin looking to the left for relief from corruption and conspiracies that are dragging Walker down.
Walker's commentary, while short, was sublimely feisty. So much so, that one almost didn't notice he never said he didn't actually do the things prosecutors are investigating him for doing.
Let's take a look, shall we? (As always, the Siren's thoughts and comments are in red.)
I will not back down
Abraham Lincoln once said, "Truth is generally the best vindication against slander." Here's another Lincoln quote for you, Scooter. "If you want to test a man's character, give him power." For a guy who has been under investigation for 3 years, and threw his state into full on revolt, you might want to keep that one in mind.
The truth on the widely covered "John Doe" is that two judges, one state and one federal, reviewed the accusations of partisans within a Democrat district attorney's office and determined their theories have no merit or basis in law. Um, not so quick. The case is currently on appeal after one judge ordered evidence destroyed - right after he got back from his swanky vacation courtesy of the Koch brothers. A move so extraordinary a federal court stopped his decision. Oh, and that "Democrat district attorney's office" is a nice try, Francis Schmitz, who is heading up the case is a Republican - appointed by George Bush, himself.
Each of these judges explicitly issued judicial orders that these partisan prosecutors must end their investigation immediately. And then it went directly to the appeals court - again, NOT partisan prosecutors.
These are the truths that need to be stated over and over again to fight the slander directed at me and our campaign by my political opponents. These are the false talking points that need to be stated over and over again until they become believed as truth - another concept discussed by our friend, Abraham Lincoln.
Still, many in the media proceed as though the opinion of the NOT partisan prosecutors is new information and ignore the NON truths I have stated above. It is not. It is old news that has already been discounted by two judges. No charges. No case. Six charges, two cases.
In reaction to the information that was released to the public and seized on by the media, the federal judge just this week sharply criticized the prosecutors. He said that they are now seeking "refuge in the Court of Public Opinion, having lost in this Court on the law." The documents were released because Club for Growth wanted to end the investigation and requested them released - they even said so, you dumb cluck.
Watching the media frenzy, it is clear that this is what happens when someone takes on the big government special interests. They push back. No wonder so many politicians are afraid to make tough decisions. No, this is what happens when you flagrantly break campaign laws and even Republican prosecutors are compelled to investigate you...twice.
I will not back down. We will continue to fight using the truth to keep the hard-working taxpayers of Wisconsin in charge of their state and local governments. We will continue to fight to make life better for the good people of Wisconsin. Yeah, yeah. Blah, Blah. What's missing? How about - I did not illegally coordinate with outside groups? Or - My campaign committed no campaign violations? Not even a - I followed every law. This what is called a "non-denial - denial." Walker blames everyone else and never says he didn't do any of the things discovered in during the investigation. In fact, their defense in the entire case is built on the foundation they DID do these things - they just weren't illegal. That explanation might be good enough for the true believers, but it doesn't mean crap to the folks who are getting tired of this shit.
Scott Walker is the governor of Wisconsin. For now.
